Points shared in derby matchNo match between these two local rivals is ever without incident and this Slazenger Premier Division was no different. Certainly not for the faint hearted, this contest was played at a high tempo throughout and was packed with tension and controversy from the beginning. Both teams started at a frantic pace with neither side able to take control. Youngsters Kate Maxey and Toni Speakman continue to grow in confidence in Chelmsford’s defence and spoiled many of Ipswich’s attacks. It wasn’t until the 57th minute when the deadlock was broken when Ipswich opened the scoring. Chelmsford may have a lack of points and goals this season but they certainly have not lacked commitment and effort. This was in evidence when they won a penalty corner from the re-start. From this set piece, Hayley Heggie levelled the score and saw the Essex side win their first point of the season. Chelmsford can now concentrate on the National Indoor Hockey League, where they compete in the Premier Division at Whitgift School, Croydon. The outdoor league action returns on 31 January 2009 with an away fixture to Olton & West Warwicks. |
